It’s a gift guaranteed to change her life in ways she can’t imagine.

When Ana arrives in Fury, she changes everything he thought he knew. His light becomes dark, his dark becomes light, and his truth becomes the lie he’s lived forever.

Ana’s future hangs in the balance. Ryker’s future is carved from his past. Destined to have the two collide, can there be a chance for a future together?

EXCERPT

I opened the door and stepped onto the porch. A soft wind swirled around me, bringing the scent of him. That was Ryker, clean and fresh and strong. A tinge of smoke wafted in on the breeze, and I scrunched my nose. That wasn’t Ryker, or at least I didn’t think it was. “You smoke?”

He pushed off the trunk of the enormous oak tree and tossed his cigarette to the ground, smashing it with the toe of his boot. Out of the shadows, he stepped in front of me. “Generally no. But when I’m stressed, yes.” He dropped his head as if shamed.

I don’t know what compelled me to touch him, but I couldn’t resist laying my hand on his chest. I felt his heart thumping under my fingertips. “What stresses you?”

“Everything stresses me. Sheriff Stuart. This damn house. This damn town. It all stresses me the fuck out.” He kicked at the dead grass under his boot. “You stress me out.”

“Me?” I gripped the edge of his jacket. “Me? Why?”

His gaze lasered into me. “When you dropped me off, I went upstairs and tried to sleep, but I couldn’t. I’m fighting with myself.” He reached for my cheek. His fingers sure and able. His touch soft. “I want you.” He threaded his hand through my hair. “I know if I have you, I’ll destroy you. I destroy everything I touch.”

He leaned closer and then stepped back, but didn’t drop his gaze. Didn’t drop his hold.

I leaned in. I wanted him closer. I wanted the kiss he was denying me.

“Fuck it, I’m weak when it comes to you.” He pulled me into his arms, and his lips crushed mine with a ferocity I’d never experienced. I tried to throttle back the dizzying current that raced through me, but it was no use. If Ryker was intent on destroying me, I was a willing victim.

Drakon's Prey (#2 Blood of the Drakon) - NJ Walters

Author                          NJ Walters
Publication Date         24 April 2017
Genre                            Adult Paranormal Romance

Valeriya Azarov turned her back on the family business to write and illustrate children’s books. But with a sister who leads the Knights of the Dragon, it’s impossible to get away from the secret society whose mission is to destroy and enslave dragons. When information falls into her hands along with the opportunity to save at least one of the ancient creatures, she can’t turn away any longer.

When a woman moves into the cabin above Tarrant Cooper’s secret underground lair, he’s both suspicious and intrigued. He hasn’t lasted four thousand years being careless, so when he suspects her of being a part of the Knights, the plan is to kidnap her and find out how much the organization knows about him and his brothers.

He’s drawn to Valeriya, but trusting her could get him killed. Even if she’s a pawn in the war between drakons and Knights, giving her his heart would mean forever.

I really enjoyed reading the first book in this series and Drakon's Prey is just as exhilarating. The Knights of the Dragons and Templar are still hunting down the Drakons under the guise of protecting the humans! Their real reasons? Greed and power! Interestingly, they might look like they are in collaboration but there is no shortage of backstabbing within and outside each organisation.

Tarrant is a Drakon, one of four brothers. He is a hoarder of communications and after everything that happened to Darius in book one, his main goal is to gather as much information as possible on the Knights. No more hiding as it has come to a point where they have go on the offensive if they want to survive.

Valeriya is a children's author and comes from a long line of Knights. Her sister is their leader but she finds the whole thing inhumane and stay out of this business as much as she can. Until now!

When Valeriya overhears a telephone conversation and stumbles on some information which could help the Drakons, she decides to take action. She takes a chance and travels to the location where she hopes to alert whoever resides there of the impending danger. Unbeknown to her, everyone of her movements is being watched. Tarrant doesn't miss a thing and although he is intrigued by her, he is suspicious of her visit. She is also unaware that she is being followed but she manages to give her persuers the slip. She has a gift that she has kept secret from everyone.

She makes the decision to return and wait. Tarrant seizes this opportunity to kidnap her and if she is working for the Knights, he would get any information he can out of her. He finds himself attracted to her and she isn't really afraid of him either. Cautious, yes! She too is unable to resist her attraction for him and the chemistry between them is sizzling hot. There is no getting away from this intense feeling but trusting each other is not so easy.

Valeriya is now thought to be missing and the Knights can't afford for her to land in the wrong hands and she is relentlessly persued. Tarrant is not prepared to sit back and allow anything to happen to her and as cautious as they are, they face mortal danger on more than one occasion. Will the Knights and Templar succeed in their mission?

Tarrant and Valeriya are very endearing. They are down to earth and logical in their thinking, except when it comes to protecting each other, then all bets are off. Rationale goes out the window. Their interactions are intense and sweet at the same time.

This story has a nice steady flow. It's full of danger, suspense, betrayal, humour and is very sexy. I was completely invested from beginning to end. I like the dynamics between Tarrant and his brothers. Ezra's and Nic's personalities are worlds apart and I would love to read their stories.

I received a complimentary eARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Last Semester by Corine Mekaouche - Blog Tour

Last Semester
Corine Mekaouche
Publication date: April 21st 2017
Genres: Comedy, New Adult, Romance

When Johanna ‘Jo’ Gold, witty college life blogger and senior at Rutan University, decides to move in with three male strangers her last semester of school, her life unexpectedly turns upside down. While dealing with her new roommates, A.J., the pompous rich kid who feels trapped in following his father’s footsteps; Rob, the prematurely engaged former womanizer who tries to force Jo out of the house at all costs; and Drew, the 21-year-old virgin genius whose encounters with women have been more than limited, Jo learns that change isn’t always easy and it’s up to her to learn how to survive the remainder of her time at Rutan the best that she can.

Along with searching for her missing mother, figuring out a clever way to pay for school tuition on her own, and dealing with the childish pranks brought on by a certain roommate, Jo’s issues seem more complicated than the average 21-year-old. Can Jo endure the dramatic perils of college while planning for life after graduation?

EXCERPT

“Breathe, Rob! Just breathe!” I demand in a panicky voice from the back seat as we swiftly pull up to the entrance of the hospital. Clutching his chest in pain next to me, he heaves out a few spouts of air, but it’s not enough to help him.

Shit!

I watch my roommate Rob’s cheeks turn from a shade of deep pink to a dark crimson red. “A.J.! He’s getting worse!” I yell to my other roommate in the driver’s seat. He rolls his eyes then turns around.

“Calm down, Jo!” he exclaims. “I can’t think when you’re yelling like this!”

Drew, our other roommate, and usually the voice of reason, says nothing as he quickly jumps out of the Range Rover and runs into the hospital entrance.
“Can’t. Breathe,” Rob manages to force out of his mouth, then before I know it, his body falls limp and his head somehow ends up on my lap. His eyes roll to the back of his head.

“I think he’s dying!” I whine and suddenly I’m losing my breath.

Releasing a loud groan, A.J. climbs out of the SUV and casually walks into the hospital as if nothing is wrong.

Why is he so calm and I’m flipping the hell out?

I begin to shake Rob’s shoulders but he doesn’t respond and I’m almost positive that he’s not breathing at all now.

It’s official.
I killed my roommate.

Okay, maybe he’s not dead yet, but if death was a road, he just made a left turn for the worse then ran over a few annoying potholes and some week old roadkill…and probably drove off a cliff or something…

Ugh! I don’t even know what I’m saying anymore! I feel guilty for doing this to him and I feel even more guilty because I kinda hate his arrogant, smug ass, but just because someone is an asshole doesn’t mean that they deserve to die, does it?

The back door opens and I see A.J. and Drew standing outside with a wheelchair. A.J. roughly wraps his arms around Rob’s body and begins to pull him out of the car. “Fuck! He’s like the size of an ogre,” he complains as he struggles to get Rob into the wheelchair. The fact that Rob is as useless as a wet noodle right now makes it difficult for A.J. to adjust Rob’s body in the chair. I cringe just watching it.

“I knew this was going to happen one day,” Drew says shaking his head. “The inevitable always happens.”
Shooting Drew a snarling glare, A.J. grits his teeth. “Just roll the goddamn chair into the hospital,” he instructs. Drew turns the chair around and begins to jog into the emergency room with Rob’s body leaning to one side. A.J. looks at me in the SUV, annoyed. “Well, are you coming?” he asks and I just freeze.

Do I stay? Do I go? I don’t know what to do with myself!
Taking a quick yet deep breath, I climb out of the SUV, shut the door and join A.J. on the other side of the vehicle.

“I’m horrible,” I blurt out and I can feel wetness welling in my eyes. “I’m a horrible person.”

“Dammit, Jo! I hate it when girls cry,” he complains as he shuts the other back door and begins to walk into the hospital. He pauses in his tracks when he notices that I’m not following him.

I’m frozen.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I have been looking forward to this story and goodness me, was it worth it? Definitely. An exceptional read!

Brody is the lead guitarist of the rock group, Bad Habits. He has the aura of a bad boy and the surfer look. He is single but has already set his sights on someone who does her best to avoid him.

Grace is a marriage and family therapist who avoids long term relationships at all costs. She is content with her casual affairs but is extremely loyal to her two besties, Kat and Chloe.

For eighteen months Brody has been making eyes at Grace to no avail. She avoids him for what she believes are good reasons but he is nothing if not persistent. It would appear that fate is determined to put them in each other's path. The incident which takes place at Grace's condo whilst she is at a party leaves her with little choices for the immediate future. From here on out it's a very emotional ride.

Their banter is hilarious most of the time but when it turns serious, it brings out all kinds of emotions. Their sexual interactions are steamy and their feelings are very tangible. Grace imparts some details of her parts to Brody but he finds it difficult to discuss the reasons why he carries this guilt on his shoulders.

When Brody's secret eventually catches up with him, it triggers life changing events for both of them. Will this revelation be the end of a beautiful thing or will fate prevail?

I absolutely love this story even though it drove me to tears at times. I couldn't help but feel everything that they were going through. Phew! It was exhausting but so worth it. It's also good to see how AJ, Nico, Kat and Chloe have evolved. It's like being part of this small family. As usual, Kenji always brings a smile to my face. Magda is a great character too. The whole thing is fabulously portrayed.

I am so glad that the author changed her mind about the "cliffhanger". That would have been devastating. Thank you for taking us right to the end. You can tell that I really enjoyed going on this journey.

I received a complimentary eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Morrow’s Horizon, the first in an all-new series of standalones from Sierra Kummings is available now!

MorrowsHorizon-wrap-web

Morrow’s Horizon

 by Sierra Kummings

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Blood, and love for a special little girl, bind the five Morrow sisters in an unbreakable way. Yet the family-devoted Sara Morrow yearns for more.

And that “more” looks a lot like the irresistible Jacob RamΓrez.

For years, Sara’s contented herself with toe-curling fantasies about the CFO of the bank that employs her – all the while promising herself she’d never fall for the type of passion that destroyed her parent’s marriage. But when the one and only Latin six-foot-four god accepts her offer of help and turns her fantasies into reality, she’s forced to decide if it’s worth finding out if her boss is everything she’s dreamed of, or just the manifestation of all her fears.

Jacob has his own set of fears. Right out of high school, he joined the Marines, only to come home six years later with night terrors that haunt even his days. Now, at thirty-three, rudimentary techniques keep his secret hidden.

Until a chance meeting with Sara Morrow coincides with a deception that rocks him to his core.

When Sara’s faith is tested, her sisters’ love gives her the courage to believe in someone else. When Jacob’s is tested, he has to learn how to believe in himself.

Excerpt

Sara turned toward the customer whose face she couldn’t see. One would think living this close to the Mexican border, she’d would be immune to the effects of the foreign language rolling off a man’s tongue. One would be wrong. Its gentle cadence sent her into fantasies at the first word.

If she were ever going to take a risk on anyone it would be with someone like the man who currently had his back to her while he placed his order. At least half a foot taller than Sara’s own five foot eleven inches, he towered over everyone, and in a way that commanded attention. His knee-length jacket hid everything but broad shoulders, yet his presence called to her on a visceral level. She didn’t have to see his face. She didn’t have to see his body. His sex appeal came from something far greater than those two things. And she wasn’t the only one staring. At least half the people in the place had their eyes focused on him too.

“Ma’am.” The barista nodded in Sara’s direction, breaking her fascination and offering a to-go cup.

As much as she wanted to continue staring, she grabbed her phone, took the coffee, and headed outside. Her favorite drink would have to suffice as the only hot thing in her life at the moment. Sipping it while she drove the rest of the way to work would be infinitely better than whatever drama that guy was sure to cause.

Shivering, Sara hustled to where she’d parked her car while checking the time on her phone. Twenty minutes to spare with only a fifteen-minute drive. Not bad. She smiled in triumphant at her little red Toyota.

Her smile didn’t last long. She’d come out with her coffee, but only two of her other possessions.

A voice behind her said, “You might need these.”

The familiar tenor from inside washed over Sara and made her forget all about the cold and how she’d be better off without the complication of one extremely sexy Latin man. His voice tempted her even more up close than it had in the cafΓ©.

She struggled for words, fearing her reaction would only intensify once she turned around. If he could start a shiver racing down her spine while he remained faceless, what would he do to her when her gaze actually met his?

Knowing he most likely had the keys she was now missing, she turned slowly, keeping her stare solely fixated on the huge palm holding out her keychain. “Um…” Oh, stop being an idiot. He’s only a man. “Thanks, I appreciate it…” Her voice trailed off as she realized the man in front of her was much more than only a man.

The person holding out her keys was none other than the person whose pictures she’d spent countless hours drooling over.

Jacob RamΓrez.

The Latin lover of her dreams.

Morrow’s Horizon portrays the family devotion for a little girl with Cerebral Palsy and the effects of PTSD on an ex Marine.

Jacob is an ex Marine who is now the CFO of his family bank. He is traumatised by what took place during the war and he is plagued with flashbacks. These can be triggered by what most would consider normal during the day and he has nightmares to contend with as well. Although, he has his own coping mechanisms, he loses control on the occasions when these attacks take him by surprise. He lives on his own for fear of anyone witnessing what he considers to be a weakness.

Sara works for a bank and dedicates her spare time fundraising for the veterans and helping her sister to look after her niece Tessa who is confined to a wheelchair. She is commitment phobic because of her parents' breakup but that doesn't stop her from fantasising about Jacob.

One chance meeting leads to a connection between Sara and Jacob but that's followed by a misunderstanding. In some ways, they both want the same thing but she has trust issues and he has a fear of hurting others as well as rejection. These are the reasons why he has a mutual agreement with Elise. Bed buddies without commitments until he uncovers her betrayal.

Sara and Jacob can't forget about each other and start a passionate relationship which is marred by one misunderstanding after another. These create a lot of heartaches and uncertainties. Then, there is the spoilt and despicable Elise who doesn't know how to take a hint. Can Sara and Jacob get over the numerous barriers to have the life that they deserve together?

This is quite an emotional journey but there is fun and laughter along the way. I like the Morrow family and how they stick together through thick and thin. Sara is hardworking, kind and considerate. Jacob is caring despite his own difficulties. They get each other even when they are struggling with their own feelings. I found that some parts of the story could have been more convincing, otherwise it's a captivating and heartwarming storyline. A great debut for this author.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Taken is not what I expected at all. It's an interesting concept with a bite!

Elise is out of a job and leads a rather boring and lonely life with no family or friends. This suddenly takes the most unusual turn.

She has just done her shopping and on her way to her car when she is grabbed by strong arms and flung into a van. She is being abducted! The two culprits take her to a cabin in the middle of nowhere. Being blindfolded, she doesn't have a clue where she is. Her abductors don't give anything away about their identities or their action. She can only guess that they are running from the law. One is very rough whereas the other appears to be amenable and she is more comfortable in his company.

That doesn't say much about her, with him being her captor and all. They appear to hit it off but then the tides change and she doesn't have a clue on how this is all going to end. Will she go down fighting or will someone come to her rescue?

This novella is very well rounded. It's well paced with good character development. The author keeps up the suspense right until the end when there is the most unexpected twist. It's short, easy to read and a real page turner.
