A disturbance at her neighbor's house piques Eilida’s curiosity. What she discovers is so shocking it sends her running through the mountainous woods during a thunderstorm. She slips on the wet ground, plummets down Mount Wilde, and slams into a large boulder beside River Freedom. Eilida is transported to Lyden, where Sunshine, a receptionist at the local paper becomes engrossed in her story. The further Sunshine delves into Eilida’s life the more entangled their lives become. Paranormal events, frightening dreams, and terror filled memories draw the women together into an unthinkable web of horror.
One night Eilida notices that something isn't quite right in the Turnwells household, a family who lives across the road from her. When she goes to investigate, what she discovers is beyond belief, making her feel sick. In her panic, she runs through the neighbouring woods causing her to trip and fall, rendering her unconscious.
Sunshine works in the office of the Lyden newspaper, where she is highly respected. Jerry is her long term boyfriend who is very considerate and they spend most of their free time together.
When Sunshine arrives at work one morning, the usually quiet office is in an uproar and she is informed that a young lady with unknown identity has been brought to the Lyden hospital. She then starts having experiences such as seeing someone who disappears in the next minute, the weather taking a turn for the worse even if short lived. She starts having dreams which appear to be related to Eilida! She has this compulsion to find out what really happened to Eilida and takes a personal interest in the case but as one thing unravels, another puzzle surfaces.
The story is very intricately written and it's impossible to guess as to what happens next. As it progresses the questions which keep cropping up are "Is Sunshine really Eilida or vice versa"?" Are they related"? It's an interesting and intriguing paranormal story. When I reached the end, which is not all bad, I still wanted to know more. As this is the first book in the Ruthless Storm Trilogy, I for one can't wait to read the next instalment.
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review and I am very grateful as this is one of the stories that will stay with me.
