Synopsis

STAND-ALONE NOVELLA - best enjoyed after reading the True Alpha Box Set (Vol 1-6)

Shifters live in the shadows of Seattle, just under the skin of the alpha male, dot-com entrepreneurs who are building a new Silicon Valley in the Emerald City. Mia is your everyday college girl, trying to earn her business degree—and a shifter who’s long hidden her identity from everyone, including her mother, who believes shifter is synonymous with criminal. Six months ago, sexy and powerful alpha-male Lucas rescued her in an alley and claimed her for his mate. Now Mia’s heart belongs to Lucas, and everyone in the world of shifters understands the magic of their mating has bonded them for life. But in the human world, there’s no wedding ring on her finger to show for it. With Christmas looming, Mia’s mother wants to finally meet Mia’s mysterious and high-powered live-in lover. With her human and shifter lives about to irrevocably collide, Mia fears there will be nothing but broken hearts in the end.

A True Alpha Christmas is 80 pages or 20,000 words. This novella can be read as a standalone, but readers will enjoy it more if they read the True Alpha serial (Vol 1-6) first.

Adult content. Ages 18+.

My Review

A nice added bonus to the story of Mia and Lucas who were mated.

Lucas is a successful business man who after rescuing Mia from an attack in an alleyway one night arranged to take her back to the student dorm, where Mia resided with her friend.

Mia applied for a job as an office intern only to find out that Lucas was the son of the owner as well as being an Alpha. Mia already knew about Lucas' nature and when they fell madly in love they were mated as true mates.

In this novella, Mia's mother insists on meeting Lucas and as she isn’t happy about the two of them living together, Mia is extremely worried. Besides her mother doesn't know that Mia and Lucas are Shifters. At the office Christmas party taking place the night before they meet her mother, Mia is extremely nervous as well as being conscious that everybody at the party will think that she is just arm candy to Lucas.

After the way the meeting ended with her mother. Everything takes a turn for the worse. Will the relationship between Mia and Lucas remain the same? Will Mia and her mother come to terms with their differences?

A beautiful love story, which I would recommend to adults Lovers of Paranormal Romance.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Zombie - Saurus Rex by Mark Souza

Author                       Mark Souza
Format                       Kindle
Print Length             194 pages
Publication Date      23 December 2014
Genre                          Young Adult Paranormal Novel
My Rating                   5 stars out of 5

Synopsis

Seventeen-year-old zombie Rex Morton would do anything to fit in at his new school and hold onto his first love.

Rex’s fiercely protective mother strong arms the yet another small town school district into accepting her son by threatening a lawsuit. At Plain View High, Rex falls for fiery goth girl, Ariella Klopenstein, the daughter of the Police Chief. While Rex struggles to fit in, Ariella would do anything to be different, anything not to wind up stuck in Plain View.

As the Z-virus spreads west and the country panics, Rex and Ariella must find a way to overcome Rex’s mother who wants to break them apart and flee town, a school principal who wants Rex expelled, Ariella’s father, the Police Chief, who thinks Rex is dangerous, and a government zombie round-up aimed at solving the zombie problem once and for all.
My Review
This is the first book I have read from this author and to be honest, I didn't know quite what to expect since it is about Zombies, not usually my genre.

Rex, a bright young teenager was infected by a virus and is now a Zombie. His mother Cecilia is very protective of him and since his change they have moved to various places due to the prejudice he encounters at every school he attends. Cecilia takes great care in making sure that Rex gets what is required to keep his humanity.

They are now in Plain View, a very small community where Rex attends the High School. On his first day, the Principal tries to persuade his mother that he should find somewhere else as he is a threat to the other students. He is not very subtle about Rex's difference but his mother will not be dissuaded. By now Rex knows what to expect from his peers but he keeps his calm and concentrates on his studies despite the nasty comments made about him.

Ariella aka Stacey doesn't wish to be like the other girls at the school, therefore dresses and behaves differently. She too is subject to some horrible remarks but unlike Rex, she gives as good as she gets. She is the first and only one who introduces herself to Rex and makes him feel welcome, which surprises him as he is not used to having any friends.

Howie is a bundle of laugh despite the fact that he is victimised at the school. He too befriends Rex and the three of them start spending time together. Rex has more compassion for all living beings and is more considerate than the "normal" students.

The Zombie virus is spreading and facilities are being built to isolate those who have been infected. Jackson, a high ranked army personnel is responsible for this project. He thinks that the Zombies should be treated like animals and he is a very ambitious individual who will stop at nothing to get to the top of the ladder.

In the meantime Rex and Ariella develop strong feelings for each other even though they can't have a proper relationship.

As the virus affects more and more people, precautions are put in place and Rex is now in danger of being captured. Whilst trying to help him, something drastic happens to Ariella and Rex is captured and put in confinement.

I was completely drawn to this story, which shows how people fear the unknown and the prejudice it brings with it. It gives a good perspective on how love and compassion can change this mindset. Some can't be changed though! I was completely taken by all the characters and the sad fact is that some of these things happen in real life. I like the way everything falls into place and how the story ends. I would recommend this book to those who like reading the paranormal with lots of action, suspense and forbidden love.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review and would like to thank him for introducing me to this beautiful story, which I might have otherwise overlooked. To me this novel more than deserves a five star rating.

Waking the Phoenix #2 of the Mythrian Realm by Lindsay Avalon

Author                     Lindsay Avalon
Format                     Kindle
Print Length           172 pages
Publication Date    17 August 2014
Genre                       Adult Paranormal Romance
My Rating                5 stars out of 5

Synopsis

Return to the Mythrian Realm in this continuation of Sha and Connor's story!

This is a continuation of Connor and Sha's story. Book 1, Breaking the Nexus, should be read first. Look for the third book coming this winter!

***In memory of a dear family friend who recently died of lung cancer, a portion of the proceeds from this book will be donated to Lung Cancer Research. Thank you for your support in purchasing this book.***

As two Realms collide, the world descends into chaos.

From the moment Sha Phoenix dropped into the middle of Detective Connor Flynn’s murder scene, he had known his life would never be the same. Following her claim to be a Sorceri from the Mythrian Realm, he had received a crash course in the impossible as they had struggled to stop a madman. Unfortunately, despite their efforts to stop the Nexus, a magical barrier separating the Mythrian and Human Realms, fractured. Magic and myth are spilling over into the Human Realm, plunging everything into turmoil.

Is their love strong enough to survive the flames of the phoenix?

When Sha vanished through a portal in the middle of battle, Connor did not hesitate to follow the woman he had claimed as his. Now in the Mythrian Realm, they join forces with the Sentinels, the guardians of the Realms, to protect the world they love. Will they be able to contain the evil taking control? Or will they perish in the flames of war?

My Review

This is the second book in the Mythrian Realm Trilogy. Warrior Unleashed is a novella worth reading before reading Waking the Phoenix. In this novella we are introduced to Achaius, Sha's half brother and his mate Saia who play an important role in this book. This book picks up right where it left off in the first one.

Sha is Mythrian and she is a sorceri with the ability to control water and fire. She is impulsive, witty and brave. She landed on earth when the Nexus, a gateway between earth and Mythria was damaged from the use of dark magic.

When Sha is pulled back to Mythria from earth, Connor who is a detective follows her through the tear in the gateway despite not knowing what awaits him on the other side. There they find utter chaos but Sha is relieved to be reunited with her brother Achaius, his mate Saia and her Sentinel partner Luca.

They are all surprised that Connor, a mere human had followed her to their realm. Achaius is not very happy about this fact until he finds out that Connor is Sha's mate. In this book chaos ensues in both realms, bringing death and destruction along the way. The evil force behind all these unusual and obscure occurrences, wants to rule both realms using his dark magic and demonic creatures. It transpires that there is more to Sha and Connor that meets the eyes. Then, there is Alec, the teenager who followed Connor from the human realm but he too is not who he appears to be.

This book is action packed. There is violence, death and destruction, heartbreak as well as love and passion. I look forward to reading the next book in the series to find out how it all ends and hopefully more revelations about who Alec really is.

I would recommend this series to adults who like to read the paranormal genre.

About the Author

I am a wife, a programmer, and now an author. I have an adorable mini Schnauzer and more books than I have room for. I love reading romance because no matter what may be happening in my life, I can always count on my books to end happily ever after. The day I met my husband was the day I truly began believing in happily ever after. After hearing me complain a few too many times that I had “nothing” to read despite the hundreds of paperbacks scattered around the house, my husband began suggesting I write my own stories. When I finally took his advice I discovered that although I enjoy my day job as a software engineer, my true calling is to be an author.

My sister drilled into me an appreciation for fantasy and mythology, something I try to bring to my books. My debut novel, Breaking the Nexus started as a book written for NaNoWriMo and has grown to so much more. It was the conduit that introduced me to a fantastic group of independent authors who have changed my life in unimaginable ways.

When I’m not writing, I’ve found a passion for blogging and interviewing fellow authors. I also love reading (of course!), baking, crochet, sewing sock monkeys, playing video games, and all sorts of random crafts. I have an incurable love of rubber duckies and stuffed animals, and I believe nobody should have to grow up if they don’t want.

Warrior Unleashed # 1.5 Novella of the Mythrian Realm by Lindsay Avalon

Author                      Lindsay Avalon
Format                      Kindle
Publication Date     May 2013
Genre                        Adult Paranormal Romance
My Rating                 5 stars out of 5

Synopsis

*** Book 1.5 of the Mythrian Realm. Be sure to read Breaking the Nexus before this! Look for Waking the Phoenix, the highly anticipated sequel to Breaking the Nexus, coming soon! ***

Nothing is more dangerous than a warrior unleashed.

When Sentinels begin dying under mysterious circumstances, the deaths are believed to be unrelated. Only one man sees the truth: an unknown enemy is targeting the elite group of warriors and no one is safe. As a panther Chimerae, Achaius Rilke recognizes the signs of an unpredictable predator. The only person he can trust is Saia Makan, the tempestuous Sorceri who has driven him crazy for years. But when the killer has set his sights on Saia, Achaius faces the hunt of his life.

My Review

This novella centres around Mythria whereas the first book concentrated on what was happening in the human realm.

Saia is a Sentinel and a Sorceri who is grieving after Treven, her Sentinel partner was murdered. She doesn't like to show her emotions and is trying to cope with her grief by carrying out relentless practice training.

Achaius is a Panther Shifter who delights in teasing Saia and when he tries to distract her to take her mind of her sorrow, she is surprised. They have always circled around each other ignoring their true feelings.

The Nexus which is the gateway between the human realm and Mythria also acts as a barrier between the two but it's beginning to have some cracks which could create havoc. The Sentinels are being targeted and some have died in the process and whoever is responsible for the chaos is now intent on going after Saia. Achaius' main goal is to protect Saia and shows his protectiveness towards her.

Whilst the battle is taking place, the tear in the Nexus gives them a glimpse of the human realm and to their surprise Sha, Achaius' half sister is in the middle of her own battle. There it ends, exactly where book one ended.

I really enjoyed this Novella, which gives a good overview of life in Mythria and the battle taking place there. I also like the way the relationship between Achaius and Saia develops despite their constant banter, which on its own makes for interesting reading. I would recommend this series to   adult lovers of the paranormal. I look forward to reading the next instalment.

Breaking the Nexus - The Metheringham Realm #1 by Lindsay Avalon

Author                        Lindsay Avalon
Format                        Kindle
Print Length              200 pages
Publication Date       13 January 2013
Genre                           Paranormal Romance
My Rating                    5 stars out of 5

Synopsis

*** Breaking the Nexus is finally here!! The story continues in book 2, Waking the Phoenix, coming in Spring 2013! ***

Throughout history, myths and legends of extraordinary creatures have been told and retold. Fantastic tales of demons and banshees, gryphons and dragons, and of course, magic. Stories that every child grows to learn are nothing more than fantasy…or are they?

Beyond the world you see lies a hidden realm, the Mythrian Realm, inhabited by all of the creatures you’ve been told are mere fiction. Only one thing lies between humans and the truth: the Nexus. A magical barrier erected millennia ago to separate the two realms, it has stood the test of time. Until now.

For Mythrian Sha Phoenix, magic is nothing new. But when she stumbles upon a portal on the verge of collapse, her fate will forever change. Pulled through the portal into the Human Realm, she lands in the middle of Detective Connor Flynn’s brutal murder scene. Soon it is obvious someone is using blood magic to try to bring down the Nexus. Together, Connor and Sha must work to unravel the secrets before the barrier falls and the realms collide.

The Nexus is breaking and all hell is about to unleash…literally.

*** Warning this book contains two graphic sex scenes featuring a sexy detective ***

My Review

Sha is a sentinel in dimension called Mythria and whilst out on patrol with her partner Luca, they get separated when going to investigate what felt like tremors. Sha wakes up in a pool of blood on earth, indicating that the Nexus, a gateway separating Mythria and Earth could have a ripple. The scene looked like she was involved in a horrible murder.

Connor is the Detective in charge of the case and going by Sha's size he does not believe that she could have committed such a brutal murder. When questioned, not being familiar with earth, her answers raises more questions. The murder looks like the work of a serial killer but there is more going on than meets the eyes. There is magic involved in all the disturbances beginning to take place around Denver and it comes to light that Sha could be an asset to assist in solving this case. Connor is attracted to Sha as much as she is attracted to him.

This novel contains magic, violence, danger as well as love. I found myself engrossed throughout the book. As this is the first in the series, it ended on a note leaving me wanting to find out what happens next. I can't wait to read the next instalment and would recommend this book to Lovers of the paranormal genre.

Release Day Blitz for Leon's Way by Sunniva Dee

Author                     Sunniva Dee
Format                    Kindle and Paperback
Genre                       New Adult Romance
Publication Date    19 December 2014
My Rating                5 stars out of 5

Synopsis

I’m Leon , number one object of Deepsilver’s rumor mill. Owner of student hotspot, Smother.

Since I was sixteen, the world has been mine. I do everything—
My way.

Every co-ed in town clenches her thighs over me, but most don’t fit the bill. See, I like my girls broken . Once I detect my shade of don’t-give-a-fuck damaged, I fight hard, I fight dirty, and I don’t give up until—
I conquer.

Drunk fathers and frequent beatings don’t merit attention, but when my despicable dad starts the process of croaking, I’m forced to remember. Thus, the downward spiral begins: my latest broken-girl turns the tables on me and splits. My hot-as-hell employee, Arriane, throws me the curve ball of a lifetime. And suddenly—
I’m out of control.

But at the center of my chaos, she exists. Always close, always sweet, and so beautifully fucking… wholesome. She represents everything I’ve shied from in a woman. Still—
I crave her.

I’m Leon, and I don’t deny my cravings. Just—this girl is not surrendering. So here I am, fighting harder. Fighting dirtier. And goddammit all, I will—
Conquer.

Excerpts

1) This is my bar. My party.
And she’s mine.

My girlfriend’s eyes shine with happiness and relief. Only she isn’t beaming at me. She brushes my hand off her thigh and stands up on her barstool, waving. Smiling a beautiful smile she has never graced me with.

I look past the partiers on my club’s terrace, following her focus. I ignore the colors of the sky, the explosions from the New-Year’s fireworks, and detect him as easily as she did.

Dominic stands at the top of the stairs like some chick-flick hero.

He wrestles to get past Jason, one of my bouncers. Dominic’s eyes are trained on my—my—Pandora with so much fucking emotion I want to jab them out.
“Oh no, you don’t,” I grind to Pandora when she hops down to meet him. I’ve fought too hard to let this happen. In a few minutes, a new year starts, and she’s in it, goddammit, with me; she’s not taking off with another man.

How the hell did he get into Smother in the first place? My bouncers are useless! One simple task I laid on them tonight: don’t let Dominic in.

Pandora started out as a challenge to me. I knew I’d snagged her late, that she had a history with the pretty-boy. But he’s labeled “Perfect Dominic” on her cell, which is the very reason why she’s with me and not him.

Yeah, Pandora and I, we are the same. We’re each other’s brand of screwed-up, and guess fucking what? I’m not about to let her forget. I never lose, and I control my world with the precision of a puppeteer, but—

The strings are fraying.
My dolls aren’t obeying.

Behind me, my second-in-charge, Christian, calls my name. He doesn’t recognize me, not now that I shove my girlfriend past the counter and use her body to crash through the door to the storage room.

I barely register Pandora’s eyes going huge with terror. Her fear…. it’s beyond the kind I get off on. She’s panicking—but so am I.

Because she can’t. Fucking. Choose. Him.
My mind blurs. Then, it checks out. The glittering rainbow of colors in the sky means squat when a sole shade of red tinges my vision.

“Leon! What the hell are you doing?” Pandora shrieks.
I am primal. A warrior. A caveman. I thrust her hard against the shelves. I am a wolf biting down on her neck, silencing her.

“I’ll fix this, Pandora—I’ll be right back,” I growl. Then I close the door behind me. Lock, lock her in and pocket the key. She’s going crazy in there, wailing for me to open—pleading—

Soon, I can’t hear her because I have charged past Jason, and I’m at Dominic’s throat. “You!” I shout. “You little shit. I will destroy you!”

2) The man I’ve loved for years is going ballistic. Books, glasses, and candles ricochet off the walls and crash to the floor. The low growl contained in his throat unleashes as he hurls his stereo at the window, making the glass panes shatter on impact.
“She fucking left me for him!”

He spins and locks on me. When Leon stares at you, he consumes you. He traps you in a small, flustered vacuum where he’s all that matters. “Leon… you’ll be okay,” I begin, but my voice trembles.

I can’t wrap my mind around this meltdown. Nothing ruffles him, nothing surprises him; in all my years at the club, I’ve never seen fissures in the marble of my boss’ beautiful fa├žade. With the exception of his girlfriends, everything he touches remains orderly, and yet he’s losing it so completely right now.
This state he’s in… It doesn’t rock my need to be there for him. I—
Am always close.

He’s my love. My unreciprocated love, because I am just Arriane, his left hand, the favorite bartender. Not one of the dolls he breaks.

Leon’s chest lifts and sinks with his turmoil. “I’ve never worked to keep someone the way I did with her. Fuck, I did everything I could while all he needed to do was barge into Smother. He fucking stole her from under my nose!” Angry tears glitter, drifting over surreally blue irises.

“Stole?” He’s delusional.

Into You by Danielle Sibarium

Author                     Danielle Sibarium
Format                     Kindle
Genre                       Young Adult Romance
Print Length           258 pages
Publication Date    December 2013
My Rating                5 stars out of 5

Synopsis

"You start out with the best of intentions, but inevitably you hurt each other. I love you, but that didn't stop me from hurting you last night, or this morning. Love sucks. It's just the way it is.”

Falling in love is easy. But what happens when that love has been tossed aside and trampled on by the person who swore to cherish it? Can you ever trust again, or will the bitter taste of betrayal keep you from allowing anyone else in?

Carter and Elizabeth come with their own set of baggage. Both have had their heart broken and carry the scars of the past into their relationship with each other. Is love ever enough? Can it overcome?

By allowing the wrong person into her heart Elizabeth only knew of love tainted with secrets and lies. Can Carter convince her he wants the whole package, heart, body and soul? As Carter attempts to face his past with Elizabeth by his side, it continues to haunt him at every turn. Can he let go and believe in her enough to leave his past behind him, or will he push too hard and send her running into another man’s arms?

My Review

This is the second book, I have read from this author and I enjoyed it as much as I did "Regret Me Not", the first one I read.

Carter is a behaviorist for children with Autism, a job he is totally dedicated to. He is different in his personal life, where he finds it difficult to trust. He is quite happy having very short term relationships to avoid getting hurt.

Elizabeth is a quietly confident twenty two year old who works in a medical practice. Like Carter, she has trust issues but keeps to herself and when not working, she spends her time with her family.

Elizabeth literally bumps into Carter by accident one day and there begins their story.

Despite their reluctance to trust each other, Carter and Elizabeth do their utmost best to have a steady relationship but each time they move forward, something happens to set them back. Then just when they think nothing could go wrong, tragedy strikes and they find themselves a lot worse off than they were to begin with.

This novel brings with it all the joy of love and happiness, the misery of heartaches as well as fun and some humour.

It would appeal to those who like reading emotional and convincing YA novels.
